How to Get a Job

1. Step one is to get you resume template or sample resume and add your personal information!

The resume objective at the beginning of your resume is one of the best ways to tell a possible employer really fast who you are what employment skills you have and how it relates to why you are applying. The objective part of your resume is important and should be included!

2. Be Complete

In this economy finding a job has become a difficult task and that is even more of a reason for you to include a complete job history and accomplishments in your job resume. Keep the size of your resume no longer 2 pages and try not to ramble or put irrelevant information in your resume. A CV it is a different job tool than a resume and a CV can be several pages.

3. USE HUMAN LANGUAGE

Use language that is conversational and can be understood in your resume or CV. If you are using “Geek Speak” then the chances are that you are not going to get that job. Using proper language will get you the interview and the job.

4. PHONE INTERVIEWS
Technology has now entered the job search and the way that some companies hire employees. Phone screening for potential employees is pretty common these days. Get ready and prepare for a phone interview depending on the job you apply for. What ever you do don’t blow off your phone interview!

5. TALKING PAY
“Straight Talking” is a good thing but you will want to be careful. Try and avoid making the entire interview seem like you only care about the money. There are many good jobs that just do not pay, so it is up to you to realize when the right time to bring up the pay is. The focus on your skills and why they should hire you until you are hired. That is how you get the job!

6. Use the internet to search for a job

Networking is important and if you are looking for a job in this economy than you need to think outside the box and the mainstream. Do not just post your resume in an online job bank and expect results. Your resume will be lost among the thousands of job resumes and you will stand almost no chance of being found by an employer. The internet can be an important tool to help you get your resume directly to the company or a recruiter but just posting it in a job bank will not get you the results you want and need. Target your resume directly to the person who makes the decisions and know the name of the person you need to follow up with about your resume.

7. Paper Resume?

Today in the age of spam emails and junk mail galore, your email resume is one click away from being deleted. The response rate of using a paper resume is far better than an email that could also be lost in the junk mail. Emails are often considered as spam and get little results, but a paper resume can give more of a personal approach that often gets better results because it is a physical document that the employer can hold in their hands and read.

8. Do not sit around waiting

When you find the perfect job you want to apply for then you submit your resume, what do you do next? Do not just sit and wait for a call. You should always make a follow up phone call and send a follow up letter. You have to tell them why you are best candidate for the job. When you need a job never sit around and wait! When you make follow up calls or send a follow up letter it will show that you are a person who puts some effort in your job hunt and takes it seriously.

9. Submit a full resume package.

There is more to getting a job than just your resume. In addition to your resume you have to include your resume cover letter and submit a follow up letter to your resume. By having a package together you can automate the resume submission process as much as you can and spend more time on your job hunting than applying. Always leave out your references until you have the interest of a potential employer. The full resume package that includes a resume, cover letter and follow up letter will save you so much time and give you a real advantage over the other job seekers who just submits a resume and sit home waiting for a phone call.

10. Send your resume to Job banks?

It will never hurt you to have your resume listed on a job bank, but never think that the job banks alone will answer all of your prayers. The biggest problem with job banks is the sheer number of outdated resumes and then being spammed to death. There are also many scams on job banks asking people to pay for training manuals etc, so be aware that you need to do your research. It will not harm you to put yourself out there, but do not rely on a job bank as your only source. Networking with the people you know is a good way to get the inside scoop on some available jobs. Just remember that no matter what you do, you will need a solid resume, cover letter, CV, or resume review
